The first snow day during the school year is always exciting, so why not celebrate it? My friend and I decided the perfect way to spend our snow day was to go get a cold treat. (I know, it makes no sense) The Cookie Dough Creamery in Worthington, Ohio is a unique, self serve place that offers both cookie dough and ice cream. It also has a cool retro vibe with tables created out of old 80s arcade games like Pac-man. We could not stop playing while eating our treats!! It was such a cool idea, and I really loved that each bowl size is already pre priced, unlike most self serve fro-yo places. First is a bar of different flavors of cookie dough and then a huge wall of ice cream flavors to choose from. Then there are so many toppings to add, like hot caramel, sprinkles, graham crackers and candy. I chose chocolate chip cookie dough and brownie batter cookie dough with cheesecake ice cream. Then, I just added hot caramel. It was a super delicious combination but next time I would just go with chocolate chip cookie dough. The cookie dough is safe to eat because it’s prepared without eggs, which is ideal for every cookie dough lover out there (ie. me). I absolutely loved the uniqueness of the place and I will definitely come back for a family day or a date with friends :)

Saturday is easily one of the best days of the week, for me at least. I love that it's a day for me to rest, to go out with friends, to put off homework until Sunday night (at the latest I possibly can) and most importantly, it's the best day to have brunch. Brunch is also easily my favorite kind of meal, because it's not small enough to be breakfast, but instead has to be big enough for both breakfast and lunch!! And there's all types of brunch food, from eggs to waffles to hash browns. This past Saturday, I got to try a super sweet breakfast place for the first time in Upper Arlington, and it was some of the best brunch I've ever had!! It's called The Original Pancake House, which was originally founded in Portland, Oregon. It's a family owned business, and the people there couldn't be filled with any more hospitality. I absolutely loved the vibe of the restaurant itself, with both sit-down seating and a counter as options to dine. I ordered their fresh squeezed orange juice, which was a no brainer for me, and it was some of the best OJ I've ever had (no kidding). I a a huge advocate for drinking orange juice once a day, and it was super fresh. And of course, I went with classic chocolate chip pancakes, because it's a good rule of thumb when trying new breakfast places to stick with a classic that every restaurant should have nailed down. And I was also craving chocolate, like always. I absolutely loved my pancakes!! They were fluffy and served with a side of chocolate sauce and fresh whipped cream, made in-house. I loved the texture of the pancakes and they were cooked to a perfect temperature. It was for sure a step-up from my go to Waffle House chocolate chip waffles (no offense, I still love Waffle House). The portion was huge, but since I didn't feel like carrying a to go box with me, I decided not to take my leftovers home :(
I also tried a side of their hash browns, which were crispy and delicious, like they should be. They were actually so good that I didn't even need to drench them in ketchup like I normally have the habit of doing. I had such a good time at my Saturday Brunch, and it was definitely one of the highlights of my holiday weekend. I highly suggest trying it out for yourself, there's so much to try and I guarantee you there is something out there for everyone, including the daredevil eaters. From bacon pancakes to their dutch Baby, the Original Pancake House offers both new and classic brunch dishes done right. Who doesn't love cookies? It's literally one of America's favorite desserts and hardly anyone can resist a warm gooey cookie that just came out of the oven!! over the weekend, I went down on campus to one of my favorite spots. Insomnia Cookies on the OSU campus is small, but actually a part of a bigger national chain that serves thousands of desperate students on campus who are in need of a little extra pick me up during exam week. The unique thing about Insomnia is that it delivers orders until 3 am (yes you read that right)! Their deliveries take about 30-45 minutes and they even allow you to track your cookies through their "Cookie Tracker" online. When ordering, you can choose from traditional or deluxe cookies, the traditional being a little cheaper. You can buy a box of "x" amount of cookies and they will either deliver to your door or you can order in person at the store. Insomnia only delivers within a five mile radius of their location, so sorry for all of you suburbans like me who live 20 minutes away :') When I went this weekend, it was purely for the enjoyment of warm cookies on a freezing night downtown, but I could definitely use some in the upcoming weeks for all my studying sessions for exams. Insomnia also has a fridge dedicated to bottles of milk to go along with those rich cookies, and they also have ice cream products now for all of you out there who think cookies and ice cream is a good mix. And to that I say... go for it!! It's a delicious combination that's hard to beat. They offer brownie sundaes, cookie sandwiches and even sell cookie cakes! My two favorites are the chocolate chunk and chocolate peanut butter cup, which if you're a chocolate lover too, I highly recommend. Insomnia definitely has a cookie for everyone, and they are high quality cookies that are always served warm and gooey!! Looking for more than just another smoothie place? Zest Juice Co. is the place to go!! Found in several locations throughout the central Ohio area, Zest sells cold pressed juices, smoothies and smoothie bowls. Juicing and smoothies are a big thing right now in the health world, and Zest makes both to satisfy all customers. Today, I went to try Zest Juice Co. with a friend, and it was such a modern, rustic vibe to it! I also really liked that there were so many options to choose from!! I decided to try a smoothie bowl and I got the original acai smoothie base (banana, blueberry, raspberry, acai and coconut milk) with peanut butter, strawberries and blueberries on top. It was the perfect choice and I really loved the peanut butter because it tasted home made!! The portion size was small, however it was still super filling because of the antioxidants and nutrients the bowl had. I have also tried a small cold pressed juice when my family brought it back one time, and it was super delicious and fresh. I had the Lush juice, made up of pear, green apple, kale and lemon. It was a little on the tart side, but I felt a difference after drinking it and I was definitely feeling better too! Each juice that Zest has different health benefits, like regulating blood pressure and fighting cancer. Although everything is super yummy and worth trying, Zest juices and smoothies are pretty expensive (like most things that are healthy and high quality). So it's definitely a good place to treat yourself on occasions!! Thanks Zest Co. for a fun afternoon in Dublin today :) Can you imagine going to a healthy Chipotle? Well, I just did, and believe it or not, it was fantastic! CoreLife Eatery is a unique new concept to healthy salads and soups in a Chipotle style setting. They have a super awesome message about food and fits in with the health craze sweeping the nation. You may not be a fan of salad, but it's definitely worth a shot to try something new!! At first, deciding what to order was a little overwhelming, but it only took a few minutes to figure out what sounded the best for me. There is a variety of options, but to keep it simple, you can order a grain bowl, a green bowl or a broth bowl (aka soup). A grain bowl has either a base of quinoa, wild brown rice or rice noodles, with the type of lettuce you want and four additional vegetables. A green bowl is your choice of lettuce and an additional vegetables, while a broth with four vegetables and your choice of broth. CoreLife also has signature bowls that fit almost every palette. From Sriracha Ginger Roasted Tofu to Thai Chicken and Noodles, there is something for everyone to try!! Every bowl is also served with a slice of multigrain bread. I chose to order a medium sized grain bowl with quinoa, kale, carrots, cucumbers, chickpeas, peppers, tofu and cucumber basil dressing. I absolutely loved choosing my own toppings, and I thought I had created a pretty tasty combination. Everything they serve is gluten free and you can definitely tell that all of the produce is quality and fresh. Although everything was delicious, it's super filling, so I would recommend choosing the smallest portion for a grain//broth bowl. Both my mom and I couldn't finish our bowls because there was so much to eat!! Another unique thing about this restaurant is their beverages. They have super interesting drinks to try- like cranberry cayenne lemonade and coconut water fruit punch! They also serve fresh brewed iced coffee and blueberry mint lemonade. CoreLife Eatery is a super creative way to introduce those who may not be super familiar with nutritious food, and even though I like to try healthy places like this, I recommend that everyone try it at least once!! I felt super energized after eating my meal and it made my body feel good, which definitely beats having fast food for dinner :) Thanks for a great lunch CoreLife, I will be returning soon for sure!! |
